The Sonas Psychology Autism Assessment Process
-
The first step is to complete a case history form, which provides our clinicians with important background information about your child’s development, current needs, and any concerns you may have. This information is reviewed by a psychologist, who will recommend the most appropriate assessment pathway for your child.
With your consent, we may contact the school to gather information about your child’s communication, behavior, sensory profile, and overall presentation in the school environment.
-
This is a comprehensive interview covering your child’s entire history, from pregnancy to the present day. It covers topics such as early milestones, communication, social development, restricted/ or repetitive behaviors and emotional wellbeing.
-
The clinician engages your child in age-appropriate activities to observe their social communication and interaction styles.
-
When all parts of the assessment have been completed, the multi-disciplinary team meets to carefully review all the information gathered during the assessment process.
-
A feedback meeting with the psychologist will be arranged to talk you through the findings, recommendations, and next steps. During this session, the psychologist will clearly explain the outcome of the assessment and answer any of your questions. Where needed, follow-up clarification can also be arranged within two weeks of the original feedback meeting.
-
You’ll receive detailed recommendations tailored to your child or young person’s unique needs. The report contains a detailed summary of the assessment process and findings from all evidence gathered. Regardless of the outcome, the report will include specific recommendations tailored to your child or young person’s unique needs.
